Nutcase

a thrilling mini-series

Ben Whelan is a successful homicide detective, until one day his wife and son are brutally murdered. When he is suspected of the crime himself, Whelan loses his mind and ends up in a mental institution. There he spends his days talking to his dead wife.

At the beginning of the series, three years later, Whelan is visited by his successor, Danira Zastropoulos. She is investigating a murder that is identical to the one of Ben’s wife and son and she wants Whelan to assist her. While she is talking, Whelan can see the victims of the vicious murder standing next to her, asking him to accept the job.

Nutcase is a thrilling mini-series with a light touch of the absurd. While the story is pushed forward by the intensive search for a serial killer, the protagonist doesn’t stop to surprise and shock us. Watching Ben Whelan is like being on a roller-coaster: terrifying and hilarious at the same time.  But also heart-breaking, since as well his being completely blunt and abusive, as his unconventional working method (talking to dead people), they are all just ways of coping with the unbearable tragedy of his own life.
